Rodney

Rodney is my bicycle.  His name is a great tribute to the American hero Caesar Rodney.  Caesar Rodney was a great American lawyer and politician who was born in 1728 to Caesar Sr. and Mary Crawford Rodney.  His Grandfather, William Rodney, came to American in the 1680's.  Caesar Rodney fought in the French and Indian war (yew!) and also signed the Declaration of Independence (mega Shaka). It is this personification of courage and bravery, to escape and go to a new place,  to fight the French and Indians, to sign Declarations of independence, that gave me the inspiration to carry on such a legacy name, and thus the name Rodney is remembered through my bicycle.

Today, me and Rod had a good day together.  He hadn't been cleaned by his old owner, so I decided to give him a lil' clean up.  There was about 5 years of grease built up on the chain, deraileur, crank, etc. and it took the better part of the afternoon to get him clean.  Ended up getting some nice oil to put on the chain and had to make sure all was well so went for a ride to visit my friend Tom.  Also, I felt guilty because I ate a whole box of Tim-Tams and was feeling sick :(....

So I decided to go on a short ride..

On Repeat

This song has recently been one of the catchiest tunes I have heard in a while.  It has the same happiness as "we dont speak ameracano"  but none of the repeatitive, house beats which that song became famous for.  I would urge you to check out Damn Arms: Destination- Cassian remix.  Its a lovely, upbeat tune, which couldbe described as Cut- Copy meets Basement Jaxx, with the synthy, clean beats that are well thought out and executed with computer science.  Listen Here now:

Bike to Coogee

recently, with the addition of my bicycle, I have been able to esplore all of Sydney.  The city is actually quite small and a 3o minute bike ride can get you pretty much anywhere.  I have been esploring the beaches along the southern coast, such as Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Coogee and recently Maroubra. 

The ride to cooge takes about 20 minutes and is about 7 ks or 5 miles.  It is an easy ride, relativly flat and mostly with bike lanes.  There are also some nice stops along the way:

  

Once I got to Coogee, I met up with my freind Ryan Pawell.  He is another transplant from Corona Del Mar who moved out here to get his masters.  We decided to take advantage of the free bbqs Australia has and had a good ol fashion cook out:

Kongs Banana Hoard

So appearently Donky and Diddy Kong have been looking for thier banana hoard all over australia, but I was lucky enough to be the one who found it!  It was just off of circular quay:

New Mau5

Oh boy, Deadmau5 just released his new album, 4X4= 12 and I was very eager to check er out and give it a nice good listen.  With it currently being the 3rd rainest day in a row, I decided to have a sit and have a listen. 

First off, Deadmau5 has been blowing down the doors latley, especially with his introduction of the led Cheese Slice and Mau5 head to match.  I was able to catch it at Coachella and EDC and boy was it amazing. 


Anyways, I was lucky enough to catch the Mau5 about 4 times this year and every show is similar, yet delivers so hard.  And this album is the same:  Very simialar, but hits so hard. 

It is a 11 track album with everything: soem mellower stuff, some mou5ey stuff and and some new stuff as well.  The tracks still follow the 128 BPM pattern deadmau5 is familiar with and delive some clean, computer accurate bass hits.  Also some great breaks in the track to let you realise how heavy it is before coming back and hiting harder then before. 

My favourite track is definatley this one:


It sounds like a meeting of Strobe and The Reward is More Cheese, however much more on point and much more accurate, almost a perfect electro track.

So I invite you to check out the new Mau5 album, availabe on torrents everywhere.  I cant wait to see him agian with these new tracks.

how to make some nice shelves on a budge..

I had no where to put my things in my 20th storey appartment, and was in some desperate need for some space to diplay my poke cards and warhammer collection.  So the first thing i did was get some milk crates.  These are like real life legos, you can stack and connect them to build what ever you

want.  But shelves were on mah mind.

 

After collection 5 crates, I began to tie them together:

It was beautiful, and my creation was coming together.  The colors seemed a bit lame, so i decided to decorate with some fabric:

It was some good fabric that matched the jungle theme I was going for with my comforter.  yew!

Thats how easy it is to make shelves.  No need to go to Ikea to buy some generic shit that is made of cardboard and plastic and that will only last a half semester.  Time to get creative.  Its better for the environement, better for you, and better for your room.

Good Weekend, Good Swell

Hey all,

So I finally got internet in my humble lil' abode and let me tell you: it has never been so good to have it.  Hours upon countelss hours at Ron's (as in Ronald Mcdonald) house were getting pretty boring and not to mention Ron's internet is pretty slow.  Able, our indo roomate, finally hooked up the internet so now I will be connected and ready to keep everyone up to date. 
To start things off, I had a really good weekend at the beaches.  It started off with a new endeavour working for the Jim Beam surf tag events (globalsurftag.com).  Its a great competition series that runs through all of Australia.  Friday was the industry challenge which was a battle between all of the local surf shops and industries.  These guys were shreadding and making the shitty, 1-2 foot onshore high tide surf look like rincon. 
Saturday was the trade off, which different groups of tradesmen competed for the title of best tradie.  This saw teh transport guys take on the lawn mowers, and teachers vs. Lawyers.  The surf was more apperant with 6-8 foot sets and howling off shore winds.  After a long day it was the Bondi Lifeguards who took the title.  It was a good start to the weekend but the real show was on sunday as we got to free surf South Curl Curl at an all time epicness:

It was pumping.  The Locs were saying it was teh best curly in years, and it double overhead shacking on the sets.  some serious shackage going on. 

It's Been Awhile

Yeah, I know.  Its been difficult to get internet constantly and when I do the quality is sub par and comparable to the early stages of dial-up at best.  Think Napster slow when trying to download a song back in '99.  Anyways, I have experienced some difficulty trying to secure the most basic necessities of life, that of maslow's lower tier on the hierarchy of needs: shelter.  Shelter is hard to come by in this big-but-not so populated city.  Although i have been here for nearly a month, a pad to call my own is something still if a dream.
 I have looked, o brothers, i have looked.  I have teamed up with my collegue and long time friend Scott Kroha to search for an abode that will comfortable suit our needs and fit the bill.  This is harder then expected, as we have spent many-a-day searching the streets of Sydney for a place.  A few have been found but nothing worth while.  I will keep you posted as out search continues. 
Aside from that, not much has been happening.  I have moved (temporarly) to Manly beach in Sydney to get continue my search as well as get a few waves here and there.  Employment will come after settling as it's hard to pursue a job without an address.  SO, once I do get a humble abode to call my own, then Internet will surely follow, which will allow for my blog to be poseted and decorated with pictures and daily updates, which will then allow for a steady hunt for a job to continue.  I wll keep you updated on the housing situation until then.
